He has been fighting for a long time: Sourav Ganguly congratulates Imran Khan

first_imgFormer India captain Sourav Ganguly on Friday congratulated former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan for his successful innings in politics. From one skipper to another, Ganguly said: “I have no idea about politics, you ask the political leaders, however, he has been fighting for a long time so I will congratulate him on his victory.”Rated as one of the best all-rounders of all time, Imran, who led Pakistan to the 1992 World Cup victory, is all set to become Pakistan’s 19th Prime Minister after his party Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) emerged as the single-largest party in general elections.PTI, however, has fallen shot of majority. The party has won 119 seats followed by the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) with 63 seats. Bilawal Bhutto-led Pakistan Peoples Party has won 43 seats. The National Assembly in Pakistan has 342 seats in total out of which 272 are directly voted for. The halfway mark in Pakistan’s national assembly is 137 for a simple majority. It is clear that a coalition government will be formed because none of the parties meet the halfway mark.Pakistan voted to elect its new prime minister on July 25. Early trends had shown PTI leading ahead of the Shehbaz Sharif led PML (N) and the PPP. On Thursday itself, Imran Khan declared his victory in Pakistan. In his first televised speech after election results showed PTI as the single-largest party, Imran Khan brought up the issue of Kashmir and said Kashmiris have been suffering for long.Khan, calling for dialogue with India, said he wants good relations with India as a poverty-free subcontinent can be possible if both countries have “good relations and trade ties”.advertisementMeanwhile, PML (N) supporters in Punjab province’s Sargodha are chanting anti-army and anti-military slogans, claiming that the results are being tampered to please the ‘men in boots’ (read army).last_img read more

Former N.C. State Star Julius Hodge Is Not Happy With John Calipari’s Recruiting Tactics

first_imgJulius Hodge talks about John Calipari's recruiting.Twitter/@Follow24HodgeOn Monday, N.C. State received a commitment from three-star forward Shaun King. It did not take long for Kentucky to muddle up this recruitment, offering King shortly after his decision. King did not sign anything tying him to the Wolfpack, and is reportedly weighing his options.Former N.C. State star Julius Hodge is not happy about this develop, and took to Twitter to express his discontent. He doesn’t specifically call out John Calipari, and denies that he is referring to Kentucky, but that is pretty clearly the target here.I remember when there was a time when coaches respected already “committed” athletes. I only had ONE not do so…seems old dogs=old tricks.— Julius Hodge (@Follow24Hodge) April 28, 2015CBB recruiting is a vicious part of the business. It’s the guy trying to get a woman’s phone # and she says “I have a bf” and he says “so?”.— Julius Hodge (@Follow24Hodge) April 28, 2015Why is #BBN on my back? However, it is up to Kirk to make the decision that is right for him, and if Kentucky causes him to reevaluate things, so be it.last_img read more

Same old song The debate over copyright litigation in the music industry

first_imgHearing the opening notes of the Scottish rock band’s 2002 single “Cry,” he recognized a hook that was unmistakably similar — identical, even — to the guts of his band’s “Indestructible,” recorded five years earlier. “But that said, there are always many ways to work around (the similarities).” LEAVE A REPLY Cancel replyLog in to leave a comment Advertisement “They basically took ‘Indestructible’ note for note,” Good recalled in a recent interview. “They completely admitted they were in the wrong.” Twitter Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace was among those who were stunned by the parallels. Even knowing that, Good decided against suing the band, whose mega-hit “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” made them international stars. He chalked it up to a mistake by the album’s producer rather than malicious intent and doesn’t get paid royalties off the track. In January, Lana Del Rey defended her moody ballad “Get Free” on Twitter saying Radiohead wanted royalties for its similarity to their hit “Creep.” She felt her song was an original work that wasn’t inspired by the rock smash hit, which itself was subject to a copyright settlement over sounding like the Hollies’ 1970s track “The Air That I Breathe.”Del Rey’s dispute sparked widespread debate on social media as music fans rushed to YouTube and streaming services to deliver their own verdicts. Plagiarism allegations are frequently a hot topic in the music industry, but rarely does the conversation leak outside recording studios quite as it has in recent memory. Football Postgame comments lead to reprimand for Harbaugh 10000 fine for Michigan

Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh looks on after the last touchdown during the game on Nov. 26 at Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes won 30-27. Credit: Mason Swires | Assistant Photo EditorMichigan football coach Jim Harbaugh had some strong words for the media following his team’s 30-27 double-overtime loss to Ohio State on Saturday. During post-game interviews, the Toledo native had harsh criticisms for the officiating. The comments resulted in a $10,000 fine imposed by the Big Ten Conference on Michigan.A public reprimand was also issued to the Wolverines’ coach, with no further punishment announced at this time. The comments made by Harbaugh were stretched throughout the presser, and he failed to answer many of the reporters’ questions, instead speaking about the officiating rather than his team.“I’m bitterly disappointed in the officiating,” Harbaugh said on Saturday. “I could have been watching the game instead of being concerned (with sideline behavior.)”Although he is known for his tirades, Harbaugh had never been directly reprimanded by the Big Ten. The statement on the subject reads as follows.“The Big Ten office today issued a public reprimand of Michigan football head coach Jim Harbaugh for violating the Big Ten Sportsmanship Policy following Michigan’s game against Ohio State on Nov. 26, 2016. In addition, the conference announced that the institution has been fined $10,000 as a result of the violation.” read more
