Three companies contracted to dredge Layou River

first_img Share Tweet Sharing is caring! Layou River after flash flooding last week Thursday.Three companies have been contracted to undertake the dredging of the Layou River, as government seeks to put measures in place to revert it to its natural state.Heavy rainfall associated with the passage of a tropical storm in July caused the collapse of the Matthieu Dam in Layou triggering an overflow and subsequent rise in the Layou River bed.Public Works Minister Rayburn Blackmore is reporting that government has engaged a number of heavy equipment operators to undertake the project.“We have received approximately nine proposals for persons who want to go into the river and extract sand from the river. We want to see serious extraction of the sand. Persons have to be able to demonstrate their ability to do that because it’s a lot of sand,” he said.According to Blackmoore, three companies have been selected to engage in the work.“We have received the proposals and they will start the actual dredging of the river. Most of the persons have proposed that the dredgers have the capacity to dredge 50 pounds per hour,” he said.He says contractors have been given two weeks to begin mobilization of the project.“We are aware that we cannot continue having excavators in the river. We have been trying to get the rivers back to its natural state. They have been given two weeks to mobilize,” he said.Dominica Vibes News 64 Views   2 commentscenter_img Share Share LocalNews Three companies contracted to dredge Layou River by: – October 26, 2011last_img read more

Top 2 seeds set in East and West; everything else TBD

first_img— New Orleans at Golden State: The Warriors embarrassed themselves at Indiana on Thursday. Will this be more of the same?— Portland at San Antonio: The Spurs are trying for a 21st consecutive playoff spot, and the Blazers are trying to lock up the No. 3 seed.— Brooklyn at Chicago has no playoff implication.___CURRENT BRACKETFirst-round matchups if the season ended Friday …East: 1-Toronto vs. 8-Washington, 2-Boston vs. 7-Milwaukee, 3-Philadelphia vs. 6-Miami, 4-Cleveland vs. 5-Indiana.West: 1-Houston vs. 8-Minnesota, 2-Golden State vs. 7-Oklahoma City, 3-Portland vs. 6-San Antonio, 4-Utah vs. 5-New Orleans.___NOTE OF THE DAY Don’t miss out on the latest news and information. The Cavaliers have two games left, both against New York. So if Philly slips even once, Cleveland could return to No. 3 by sweeping the Knicks.Indiana (47-33) still has a chance at No. 3; to get there, the Pacers have to win out and have both the Cavaliers and 76ers lose out. That seems unlikely, and Indiana is probably heading for the No. 5 spot.Miami, even after a bad loss in New York, controls its fate in the race for No. 6. Milwaukee is No. 7 for now, and Washington — a loser of four straight, including a head-scratcher against Atlanta on Friday — has slipped to No. 8.___WEST UPDATEADVERTISEMENT Carpio hits red carpet treatment for China Coast Guard PLAY LIST 02:14Carpio hits red carpet treatment for China Coast Guard02:56NCRPO pledges to donate P3.5 million to victims of Taal eruption00:56Heavy rain brings some relief in Australia02:37Calm moments allow Taal folks some respite03:23Negosyo sa Tagaytay City, bagsak sa pag-aalboroto ng Bulkang Taal01:13Christian Standhardinger wins PBA Best Player award Recto seeks to establish Taal rehab body to aid community, eruption victims Isner, Querrey give US 2-0 lead in Davis Cup quarterfinals Lights inside SMX hall flicker as Duterte rants vs Ayala, Pangilinan anew Nadine Lustre’s phone stolen in Brazil Judy Ann’s 1st project for 2020 is giving her a ‘stomachache’ Five days left, five spots left to clinch, and six seeds left to decide.A frantic finish is coming to the West.Portland controls the race for the No. 3 seed, and Utah knows that if it wins out the worst it can finish is No. 4 — which is astounding, considering it got off to a 19-28 start and was 10½ games out of the fourth spot.New Orleans (45-34) beat Phoenix to jump two spots to No. 5, and Minnesota (45-35) topped the Los Angeles Lakers to remain a half-game ahead of Denver for No. 8. Those two results mean four teams have exactly 45 wins going into Saturday, with Denver currently at 44 wins and the Los Angeles Clippers still able to get to 45 if they win out.___SATURDAY’S GAMESSome clarity might … finally … come to the West.— Denver at L.A. Clippers: The Clippers have to win out, or the season ends. Denver must try to match that desperation.— Milwaukee at New York: Milwaukee is 10-12 since the All-Star break. Some momentum might help the playoff cause.— Oklahoma City at Houston: Means nothing to Rockets. Means plenty to Thunder, who still could get home-court. November 18, 2016 Entrepreneur Staff Editorial Director Mark Cuban Hates on Anti-Hate Twitter Tools Earlier this week, Twitter rolled out a new tool that it hopes will help the site’s ongoing harassment problems. A beefed-up mute feature is now able to filter phrases, keywords and hashtags that a user deems offensive, and can mute entire threads if desired. The users will stop receiving notifications from any nasty threads they chose without removing the thread from their timeline or blocking anyone. In short, while it doesn’t stop anyone from writing vile tweets, it prevents the target of attacks from seeing them. Is that enough? According to Mark Cuban, no.Linking to a story about the new tool on Buzzfeed, Cuban commented: Many of Cuban’s 5.9 million Twitter followers jumped in the conversation, asking what he thought would be a more effective solution. Some offered other suggestions, which began to highlight how difficult this problem is to solve.Eventually, the thread found its way to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who replied:Related: Jack Dorsey Explains Why Elon Musk Has One of the Best Twitter Accounts Cuban accepted this, and while he had Jack’s attention, lobbed one request that every Twitter user can get behind:Jack didn’t get back to him on that one.
