Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S with 48MP camera launches on May 20: What will be price and what happens to Note 7?

first_imgFebruary was when Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 7 in India. Nearly four months later, May is when the Redmi Note 7 dies in the Indian market, possibly killed by its own creator. And if its creator that is Xiaomi does show it some mercy, then it will be killed by the market forces. This is because a new Redmi Note is coming. On May 20, Xiaomi will launch the Redmi Note 7S, and chances are that the Redmi Note 7S is going to slot in exactly the same spot that currently the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 occupies. It’s actually quite weird that the Redmi Note 7S is coming but Xiaomi can be a weird company, probably something that also helps it keep ahead in the market. It does this out-of-box — and the launch of the Redmi Note 7S is one such bit — and that helps it keep the competition in check. Now that the Redmi Note 7S coming, there are two questions: what will be the price of the Redmi Note 7S and what happens to the Redmi Note 7?Redmi Note 7 is deadThe second question is easier to answer. The Redmi Note 7 is so very dead. Even now, when there is no Redmi Note 7S, the Redmi Note 7 has a very peculiar existence. There are two phones Xiaomi sells at a price point of Rs 9,999. These are the Redmi Note 7 and the Redmi Y3. Both are good phones, but the Redmi Note 7 has an edge here. However, Xiaomi — probably because it has better margins on the Y3 — wants to sell more of Xiaomi Redmi Y3 to people who want to spend Rs 9,999 on their phone. This may mean that Xiaomi wants only one phone at Rs 9,999 price point and it probably wants that phone to be the Redmi Y3.advertisementNow, even if I am wrong in these assumptions, the Redmi Note 7 is still dead. Imagine that Xiaomi wants to two phones at the price point of Rs 9,999, in that case on May 20 you may see the Redmi Note 7S launching at the price of Rs 9,999. This too will mean that the Redmi Note 7 is dead. It will be officially killed once the Redmi Note 7S launches or it will be killed by the market because no one will buy it over the Note 7S.What could be Redmi Note 7S price?Given the context that we discussed above, I believe the Redmi Note 7S is going to priced at Rs 10,999. It can’t possibly go above that because then it will be clashing with the Redmi Note 7 Pro, which sells for Rs 13,999. And it won’t be under Rs 10,000 because — as I already mentioned — Xiaomi likely wants to give some breathing room to the Redmi Y3.This also means that the Redmi Note 7S will be a phone that will be almost exactly the same as the Redmi Note 7 except its new 48-megapixel camera. The 48-megapixel camera will help Xiaomi bump up the price and sell it to — rightly I believe that this will again be a very nice phone — to willing customers for Rs 10,999.In fact, if you take a closer look you will realise that the Redmi Note 7S could be the exact Redmi Note 7 that Xiaomi sells in China. The China model of the Redmi Note 7 sports (almost) the same specs as the Redmi Note 7 India variant. The only difference between the two Redmi Note 7 is the 48MP sensor. The China variant of the Redmi Note 7 includes 48MP + 2MP camera configuration on the back. So, it is highly likely that the Redmi Note 7 China variant may come to India as the Redmi Note 7S. In other words, the other specs of the Redmi Note 7S will be Snapdragon 660, glass body, 13MP selfie shooter, 6.3-inch FHD+ display, and 4000mAh battery.Meanwhile, Xiaomi is also bringing Redmi flagship aka the Redmi K20 powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. This Redmi flagship could be priced around Rs 20,000, and that should complete Xiaomi’s Redmi phone range between Rs 5,000 and Rs 25,000.ALSO READ | Xiaomi Redmi Note 7S with 48MP camera launching in India on May 20ALSO READ | Realme X will launch in India soon, expect price of less than Rs 20,000ALSO READ | Asus ZenFone 6 to launch today: Flip cameras, expected price, specs and how to watch livestreamlast_img read more
